Spurs Rise To Third After Aston Villa Premeditated Surrender

Like most Villa fans I was expecting to lose this game against a Tottenham side that is one of the in form sides in the BPL. However, I did not expect to see Villa give up without a fight and unfortunately after seeing the team sheet before kick off I realised this was a premeditated surrender.

This was just what the doctor had ordered for Harry Redknapps Spurs team and it guaranteed the Tottenham manager an easy ride in his first game back after his recent health scare.
Alex McLeish has a reputation for dour football and a team selection with Alan Hutton playing right midfield, a centre half playing right back, a centre forward playing left midfield with Gabriel Agbonlahor somewhere in between merely polarises this opinion in the minds of supporters.
There was no intent to win this game, the plan from the outset was to park the bus and hope for a breakaway goal. There was no coherent direction for the players to follow as possession was surrendered time and time again as the defence just hoofed the ball up the park in the general direction of the despairing Darren Bent.
The first twenty minutes of this game saw Spurs play with a fast tempo and it seemed only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken and Emmanuel Adebayor was in the right place to guide home after a Spurs corner.
Spurs eased back after going in front and former Villa No 1 Brad Friedal could have smoked a cigar leaning against the post as Villa struggled to put 2 or 3 passes together.
Just before half time Adebayor was on hand again to slot into the net after Collins failed to clear a Gareth Bale cross from the left.
2-0 down at half time actually flattered Villa as Spurs could easily have scored 4 goals and Adebayor should have had a hat trick.
The start of the second Half saw Villa come out with a bit more purpose and for a 10 minute spell Villas' possession actually rose to a high of 40%.
The half meandered aimlessly on with Spurs displaying some exhibition keep ball without really trying too hard.
Spurs easily deserved this victory over Aston Villa as they played some fantastic football. My only question mark over Tottenham Hotspur is I think they lack the ruthlessness to win the title. Aston Villa were there for the taking tonight but Spurs eased off the gas & chose a more pedestrian style of play when they should have been playing full pelt for 90 minutes to maximise goal difference.

The Aston Villa premeditated surrender merely gifed Tottenham Hotspur with an easy 3 points that saw Spurs rise to third in the table.
