A warm and comforting Kedah welcome is always appreciated when staying in this Northern Malaysian state.
When visiting Langkawi you are spoilt for choice with an abundance of accommodation to cater for every budget ranging from the Four Seasons Resort or the Berjaya Langkawi Beach Resort to the Gran Continental or the Bella Vista Hotel both in Kuah town offering accommodation for the more budget conscious.
On my last visit to Langkawi I stayed in one of the wooden chalets at the Sheraton Beach Resort, it was a most enjoyable experience with seaviews yet on the edge of a rainforest with all the wonderful fauna including monkeys, hornbills and the amazing flying Lemurs gliding from tree to tree.
Two of my personal favourite Langkawi hotels are the Datai Langkawi and The Andaman both of which epitomises the lavish luxury expected of 5 star accommodation.
In Kulim there is the Hotel Seri Malaysia and the Kulim Inn, while over at Sungai Petani is the Cintra Sayang Golf and Country Resort, The Swiss Inn and another in the Seri Malaysia chain of hotels.
Within the state capital Alor Star there is a good choice of Kedah hotels to choose from including the Starcity Hotel, Sentosa Regency, Grand Crystal, Royale Hotel and the Seri Malaysia to name but a few.
Whether you plan on staying in one of the sumptuous 5 star Langkawi resorts fit for royalty or decide to try the Homestay programme in a kampung the common denominator is the warm and friendly Malaysian smile greeting you as you enter your chosen Kedah hostelry.

Kedah Hotels And Resorts
Kedah offers some absorbing opportunities for those interested in local culture with the homestay program whereby the visitor gets to stay with a Malaysian family following the traditional lifestyle of the local family.
I believe this program, although not industrial in size is popular and growing as it offers a unique insight into the lives of the locals.
To be an officially approved Homestay you must have the following:
A letter of approval from the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia allowing you to legally conduct Homestay activities, marketing and promotions.
An official emblem of the Homestay program on the front door.
Cultural activities installed for the visitors that can include Fishing, Jungle Trekking, Cultural Performances....etc
In Kedah the best known Homestay is Kampung Raga where guests can experience cultural performance, cooking and handicraft demonstration, traditional games, life as a rubber tapper, jungle trekking, mangroves and waterfalls.
The village location is blessed with a scenic river and some colourful flora and fauna.
The latest addition to the Kulim hotel scene has seen Tune Hotel opening their budget accommodation hotel located next to the Landmark Central Shopping in Kulim town.
Can the Westin Langkawi Resort Deliver 5 Star Value?
Is the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort still sitting pretty at the northern tip of Cenang Beach?
