A successful Kelantan festival that saw its 28th successive year of competition in 2010 was the International Kite Festival. The festival is growing in popularity and the July 2010 event held at Pantai Irama (beach of melody), Bachok nearby Kota Bharu attracted competitors from Thailand and Indonesia but the eventual winner was a local, Saipudin Said from Kelantan.
Another interesting Kelantan event that is also growing in popularity is the Burung Candik competition that dates back to 1995. The star of the show is the Red-Whiskered Bulbul whose melodic singing is subject to this competition.
The 2010 Burung Candik event attracted 410 songbirds to enter the competition with participants travelling from Brunei, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia to take part.
Each bird has a 90 second slot to impress the judges and I am hoping for the birds sake the organisers did not fly in a certain Mr Simon Cowell to inflict his scolding opinions on any failed competitors!
These mellisonant warblers are becoming highly prized commodities with competition winners commanding a high sell on price to interested parties.
The Sultan Muhammad IV football stadium is just across the road from the KTC and apart from hosting the successful Kelantan football team they also have meetings and events space available for let.
