Thistle Port Dickson Resort Review
Before a recent trip to Port Dickson I planned to stay at the Avillian PD, I had not pre-booked a room and arrived in the hope of getting a room for the night. What happened next was bizarre.
I got out of my car and was immediately greeted by one of the hotel security staff, I say greeted but in fact he did not say one word but followed me trailing about 2 metres behind me until I reached the reception desk.

At first I thought is he following me? Then I thought no don't be paranoid, but this guy stood about 2 metres behind me and never moved all the time while I was waiting to be served.
I then realised what it must feel like to have a stalker, it didn't feel spooky at all but it also did not sit well with me, this is not how I expect to be welcomed to a hotel.
The staff were fairly busy dealing with customers and when my turn finally came they were courteous and friendly but said that I had to wait 30 minutes until a room was ready.
I hesitated, looked around to see if my stalker was still there (yes) and decided no. I politely declined to the reception staff and was on my way still unsure where to try next.
It was a Thursday so no problems with the weekend crowd from KL overbooking every hotel but, I wanted to stay somewhere quite nice and I suddenly remembered that the recently renovated Thistle Port Dickson Resort could make a good choice so off I headed along the beach road to the Thistle.
What I didn't realise is just how far out of town the Thistle is located, it was about a 15 minute drive.
The hotel reception staff at the Thistle Port Dickson Resort greeted me with a warm smile and after checking for stalkers (ok) I agreed a price and that was that, accommodation sorted for the night, 1 standard king room.
The Thistle Port Dickson Resort is a four star hotel and my room for the night was well equipped with the usual amenities you expect from this standard of hotel. The one stand out feature was the size of the bed, it was enormous, it looked like two double beds pushed together and covered by a humungous mattress.
But could it pass the comfortable sleep test? The answer to that was a resounding yes, it was a very comfortable sleep.
There is a good choice of eateries available at the Thistle Port Dickson Resort, but they close early at night so if you fancy a midnight snack then it is room service only.
'Fresh' is a buffet style restaurant, 'Chinoise' serves Chinese cuisine, 'Glass' keeps the European foodies happy with their Italian menu, 'Steps' is the lobby lounge haunt that everyones goes to at least once and down by the beach is 'Cumulus' an al-fresco bar and tapas restaurant to keep you entertained until the early hours.
The swimming pool at the rear of the hotel is both large and located in a tranquil environment with rolling palm trees gently swaying in the breeze.
Walk past the pool it is a nice stroll through the resorts gardens down to the infinity pool overlooking the beach and the straits of Malacca.
The Santai Spa is a suitably luxurious spa ready to massage away the stresses and strains of modern living for the discerning customers of the Thistle Port Dickson Resort.
All in all this was a pleasant stay in a very nice resort, I would have no problem staying at the Thistle Port Dickson Resort the next time I'm in Negeri Sembilan.
My only complaint would be the distance away from Port Dickson town itself. I think if I was to stay for a few days this could irritate me, the Thistle PD as I described is 'very nice', but is this enough for an international brand name?
The facilities here were very good but not outstanding and competition is fierce in PD from resorts such as the Legend Water Chalets PD and a whole host of well presented resorts.
I'd even consider trying the Avillian again, stalkers aside that also looked a very nice resort indeed.
