Nando's serve hearty portions of Lusitanian cuisine for their entrees and the Queensbay mall outlet only disappointed with their chicken and mushroom soup starter.
After a disappointing start to our Nando's meal things perked up with the tasty Espetada and equally scrumptious Angry Mango Burger.
To drink we opted for the bottomless coke and the smooth taste of their liptons chamomile tea.
I prefer the taste of grilled vegetables to other methods of cooking them and the carrots were nice and crunchy so they kept most of their good nutrients which is a plus point for me.
Well after taking a huge bite into the soft bread and experiencing the flame grilled chicken with dices of mango I was very pleased indeed. The mango adds a sweet taste to the hot sauce and it is a combination that is very well suited.
How can any diner neglect a dish with a name like Angry Mango Burger? It is a name conjured up to entice the customer into selecting this dish, but it does pose the question if said diner is disappointed by it will they end up angry instead?
The 3 bean salad and the chunky Peri chips added a nutritious balance to this dish and I felt they complimented the meal very well.
This dish was ordered extra hot and the flame grilled meat was still sizzling on the vertical skewer when it arrived on our table drizzling down onto the chips and 3 bean salad below.
Espetada literally means skewered meat and the Nando's version of this popular dish consists of marinated chicken thighs and peppers flame grilled on a skewer.
Espetada is a traditional Portuguese dish emanating from the Isle of Madeira whose other famous export is the star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid fame.
This meal got off to a bad start so surely things could not get worse from here? Thankfully when the Espetada and Angry Mango Burger (I love that name) arrived our gastronomic experience took a significantly upward turn.
In my opinion, if this was a soup created in the kitchen of Nando's I would be looking for a new chef because it had a fast food artificial taste to it, very poor indeed.
I questioned the waitress whether the soup was taken directly from a tin and she said she would consult with the chef but I never got a reply and at the end of our meal we were in a rush to get to the cinema so I did not pursue it.
The restaurant was quite busy as it was peak evening time but the soup arrived remarkably quickly despite this. On first taste there was a hint of Peri seasoning adding some zest to the mushroom and chicken flavour. However this soup had the taste and texture of a soup taken directly from a tin and heated with a bit of seasoning added.
Nando's Queensbay, Penang - Our Food Bill
I arranged to meet my friend Oli in Nando's Restaurant in Queensbay Mall prior to us both going to the opening nights' screening of the movie Thor. Having fasted for a few hours and in common with the nights main event I had the hunger of a Viking warrior waiting to satisfy his carnivorous desires.

It looked fantastic and best of all it actually delivered what its presentation threatened, a great hot and savoury flame grilled taste.
Both main meals we ate more than made up for this and they were devoured with a vigour fit for a viking warrior. Thor would have been proud.
