Spy Malaysia Travel Review
Once the second Penang bridge has been completed the Eastin will be the only Penang hotel with a clear view of both Penang bridges as its location on the coast is approximately half way between both bridges.
The majority of transient business commuters to Penang come from the south (KL) and Penangs first access point will be the second bridge, meaning if these commuters want to get to Georgetown they will have to pass the Eastin to get there, or take the first bridge.
The Eastin Hotel occupancy rates are already very good for this new 4 star Queensbay hotel but once the second bridge is open then this hotel will be in all probability operating at optimum capacity.
As all good forward thinking businesses do, the Eastin Group already has plans to meet any extra demand because a 5 star resort is still to be built in the trendy Queensbay area.
But what of the quality of service to the customer from the Eastin Hotel in Penang? Are they accommodating their clientele to the level expected from the hotel savvy business class of SE Asia?
When I arrived at the Eastin I was greeted with a warm and friendly smile from the receptionist and after introducing myself she quickly summoned the concierge to show me around the hotel.
My first port of call was the Danai Spa who also have an outlet in Tanjung Bunga and in the 5 star G Hotel on Gurney Drive. Danai Spa supply all the spa and wellness services expected of a first rate hotel and their pleasant staff were very welcoming towards me.
Eastins' gym is an open space with exercise machines situated at the periphery giving their energetic guests a 180 degree view of Penang as they pump the iron and pound away on the running machines. The gym is also open to non members for either an annual fee of RM900 or RM1600 for different packages or monthly rate of RM250.
Gym membership benefit programs include use of the pool, complimentary car parking as well as a 20% discount at the Danai Spa and Food and Beverage Outlets.
The Eastins' swimming pool area has been cleverly designed in landscaped gardens to give a feeling of privacy in what is a relaxed and laid back environment that positively encourages you to unwind the stresses of the day.
The most basic rooms in the Eastin are the Deluxe Hillside and Deluxe Seaview with both affording panoramas matching the room description. As with all new build hotels space is a premium so an efficient room design is paramount to maximise consumer comfort and these rooms offer enough space to be able to navigate the amenities quite easily.
As to be expected from a new hotel the beds in the Deluxe rooms are very comfortable and the bathroom more than adequate to satisfy the transient guest.
The Soho Duplex is on two levels with the sleeping accommodation on the upper level and a living room style downstairs complete with workdesk for the business minded who insist on working away from the office.
The Eastin Deluxe is a spacious accommodation with a living room and separate bedroom with the predominate factor being the comfort of the guest.
The Family Suite is as the name suggests the largest accommodation available at the Eastin Hotel and it is also set across two floors. The downstairs consists of a large lounge complete with Kitchenette and there is also the master bedroom in a separate room.
Upstairs sees two further bedrooms all with LCD TV and work desks that offer the opportunity to keep all the family in a comfortable environment.
The Executive Lounge for the privileged guests on the Club Floors offer a vast range of complimentary perks for the weary business traveller looking to be pampered after a tiring business trip.
Swez Brasserie has a capacity to sit 200 and the other F&B outlet on the ground floor is the Lobby Lounge where various snacks and pastries are served. At night a live band performs here to keep Eastins guests entertained.
The Eastin Hotel has banquet and conference facilities that can be configured to meet both business and wedding demands with the Grand Ballroom having a maximum capacity to sit 650 people.
One feature I especially like about The Eastin Hotel is their emphasis on security; When you enter the lift your electronic key will only allow to exit on the floor where your room is.
The Eastin Hotel is the newest addition to Penangs diverse list of hostelries and it has been strategically located in the up and coming Queensbay area with the future in mind.
The next level of rooms available are the Club Deluxe which again come with either a sea view or hill view. The comfort levels rise with this class of room as do the complimentary benefits on offer to the business or leisure traveller.
The suites at the Eastin Hotel Penang offer more choice with options such as the Eastin Deluxe, Soho Duplex, Family Room and a Disabled Friendly Room.
Eastin has a delightful all day restaurant called Swez Brasserie located on the ground floor with cuisine choices as diverse as Japanese, Western, Chinese and local food waiting to satisfy their hungry guests.
The 4 star Eastin Hotel in the Queensbay area of Penang is already proving the business hotel of choice for the weary business classes visiting Bayan Lepas FTZ who are seeking a comfortable refuge affording all the amenities required to make their stay an enjoyable one.
