Out Of Africa Restaurant, PJ
Our Food Bill

Deep Fried Calamari - RM15.00
Mauritius Crab and Watercress Soup - RM18.00
Ostrich Schnitzel - RM44.00
Bobotie (Baked Curry) - RM39.00
Singita's Chicken Sosatie (Kebab) - RM35.00
Then the Mauritius Crab and Watercress Soup arrived and I admit I was a tad disappointed at the small size of the bowl.
The plus point about this dish was it had a very creamy crab taste to it that was quite delicious but I could not see the value in the RM18.00 price tab.
The main courses then began to arrive and I was eagerly waiting my first ever bite of Ostrich meat.
The Ostrich Schnitzel had a very savoury taste to it, it was very easy to chew and it actually tasted fantastic with the added bonus of all that yummy cheese on top.
Singita's Chicken Sosatie looked great on the plate and after Amir finished running around the restaurant playing Tarzan with the kebab we found it tasted great as well.
There was a nice mix of flame grilled chicken, green peppers, onions and mango that kept the taste very interesting.
I think everyones favourite dish of the night was the Bobotie baked curry. This is a famous South Aftrican dish that is unlike any curry I have ever encountered on my travels.
The Bobotie however was absolutely delicious with its sweet and nutty flavours mixed in with the added herbs and curried spices it delivered quite a unique taste that all three of us fully enjoyed.
Then there was the added pleasure of mixing the Bobotie with the sambals, rice, chutneys and banana coated in coconut to give some interesting and pleasant taste variations.
To wash down all this fine South African cuisine we imbibed a Pink Guava Juice, an Iced Lemon Tea and the famous South African Rooibos Tea.
But, for  the second time tonight I felt a shade disappointed as I discovered a teabag when I was expecting the actual loose tea leafs.
Out Of Africa restaurant is a really cool place to dine at and the menu has some amazing choices although it is a bit pricey it is still an outstanding place for dining in PJ.
The menu really excited me as there were lots of dishes I had never tried before, this was our order:
Maybe I should do some in depth research into the history of Malaysian cuisine and find what other culinary wonders have left these shores and been adopted in pastures new.
However I would not let these very minor issues cloud what was on the whole a great meal.

Location Map

I'd never dined in an African restaurant before so when the opportunity arose to dine at the Out Of Africa restaurant located on Lorong Sultan in the heart of PJ, I seized the chance.
The Calamari arrived first and my friends Amir and Meeza looked like they were going to scoff the lot as they really enjoyed wolfing them down, this was a good starter.
I was even more amazed to learn that Boboties' origins go back to the Malaysian people brought over to South Africa to work for the East India Company over 200 years ago.

The Ostrich came as an escalope coated in breadcrumbs, then fried before having an ample portion of cheese melted into the top, it looked scrumptious.
It was served with fresh carrots, fresh spinach and a baked potato giving some nutritional balance to the dish. I really liked it.
This Bobotie is very very good.
I am a tea connoisseur and I have drank Rooibos on many occasions previously so I am aware of its rich sweet taste and all its health giving benefits.
The main courses were undoubtedly the highlights and I cannot speak highly enough about both the Ostrich Schnitzel and the Bobotie because they were simply delicious and I would highly recommend them to anyone thinking of dining at Out Of Africa.
