This was my first Ramadhan buffet for 2011 and I was looking forward to munching my way through all the various foods on offer at a Selangor restaurant I had never dined at before.
I arrived early to take in some shopping and have at look at the other restaurants on 'The Street', where I am informed all the best eateries at The Curve are located.
I have picked up a good nutritional habit at buffets by eating lots of fruit and I started this meal off with a decent plateful of luscious fresh fruit mixed with a few of the sweeter delicacies.
The Kuih Muih selection was without being outlandishly large quite tasty and I did enjoy munching on a couple of Lemang (rice cooked in bamboo) as well as tasting a few sips from the yummy porridges on offer.
With me favouring savoury flavours over sweet it was the more substantial buffet options I was more interested in, so my first plate contained some Beef Redang, Butter Prawns, Ginger Chicken, Spicy Squid, Green Beans and plain rice.
The Beans retained a touch of crunchiness which I like because it not only improves the taste sensation but it is also a healthier way of eating vegetables.
Another dish I couldn't get enough of were the butter prawns and they just ousted the Redang as my favourite dish of the night.
Moving on, the Asam Pedas Ikan (sour fish) delivered a pleasant taste that gave a good alternative to the other dishes on offer and all my fellow diners agreed this was a very tasty dish.
The Ramadhan Buffet experience is not complete for me if I do not test all the sauces and delectable delicacies on offer and the Asam Pedas buffet had a good range of tasty morsels on offer to satisfy even my discerning taste buds.
When passing my critical eye over the evenings dining experience I was only disappointed with the Spicy Squid and Ginger Chicken.
The Spicy Squid tasted ok but the more I ate the saltier the taste became so this was one item I did not go back for a second helping of and I found the Ginger Chicken lacked any real flavouring so I was a bit disappointed at the bland taste it delivered.
We were on a pre-booked table next to the fountain and an added bonus was a band was playing right in front of us which greatly enhanced our al fresco dining experience at Asam Pedas restaurant.
The Beef Redang had me gushing with culinary joy as the sublime sauce quickly invigorated my salivating tastebuds and had me going back for a further two portions, it was that good. The beef was from a good cut of meat as I encountered hardly any fat across the three portions I ate.
However, this is a buffet with a lot of choice and being critical of only two menu items is still a good achievement because I was very upbeat about everything else on the buffet menu.
After arranging to meet some old friends at Restoran Asam Pedas at The Curve I was quite excited to learn that this eaterie is owned by The Royale Bintang Hotel as their chefs have a good reputation for quality cuisine.
Restoran Asam Pedas delivers great value with its RM38 per head Ramadhan Buffet and there is sufficient choice to satisfy the differing tastes of a typical group of hungry diners.

One thing that stood out was the RM38 per head cost of the buffet at Asam Pedas was the cheapest amongst the eateries along this row, but could the food quality match the value for money price tag?
Thankfully they were shelled as well, meaning I did not have the frustrating wait on each prawn as I removed its cumbersome outer casing before delighting on its yummy taste.
