Spy Malaysia Travel Review
Taking the culinary highway south to sample the delights of the Selangor restaurant scene is something that has every Penang based gastronome drooling in anticipation of a feast fit for a king and I am no exception.
Starting this culinary tour in the award winning D'Tandoor restaurant in Subang Jaya I was hopeful of tasting some of the best North Indian cuisine Selangor has to offer.
I arrived quite late at the restaurant so I missed the early evening peak hours and was thus able to opt for my table of choice right next to the bar counter and in easy calling distance of the staff.
There were 3 of us dining and after scanning the menu we ordered the following:
Chicken Tikka Masala - RM20.90
Mutton Rogan Josh - RM19.90
Beef Jal Frezy - RM18.50
Biryani Rice - RM6.50
Jeera Pulao - RM8.50
Garlic Naan - RM4.80
Kashmiri Naan - RM7.50
The kitchen staff were quick off the mark and before myself and my friends had time to conclude our conversational openings they were delivering bowl after bowl of delicious looking Indian cuisine to our table.
The Chicken Tikka Masala delivered a flavoursome spicy taste without the kick of a curry overloaded with Chilli.
The Mutton Rogan Josh and the Beef Jal Frezy were both equally as tasty on my welcoming palate but there seemed an odd familiarity between the two sauces. There were subtle differences between the sauces but they were both remarkably similar in taste.
A big plus point was the Mutton and the Beef were both extremely tender and completely free from any fat or grizzle.
As soon as I had taken one bite out of the Kashmiri Naan I knew that was mine and there was no way in the world I was sharing it.
The Garlic Naan was also a very tasty bread but sadly the Paratha was the one food item we did not finish mainly because we were full from all the other scrumptious food on offer.
When discussing both dishes of rice served my two dining companions both preferred the Biryani Rice as they said it was more flavoursome due to its extra ingredients.
I thought the Biryani Rice was very good but I actually preferred the Jeera Pulao Rice as I could sense a very subtle essence of cumin in its taste that did not overwhelm but a added depth to the taste that was very complimentary when mixed with the curry sauces on offer.

The fruit punch was a mixture of apple, carrot, lime but with the dominant flavour being the water melon it gave a very pleasant taste.

We were all equally impressed with both the service and the quality of food on offer at the Restoran D'Tandoor. This established brand name on the Selangor restaurant scene is still delivering high quality Indian cuisine and judging by this dining experience they will be here for a long time to come

I was not to be disappointed.
Mutton Rogan Josh
The sauce had a nice texture that was easy on the tongue and the Chicken Tikka meat was tender and plentiful.
However, they both did taste very good.
Beef Jal Frezy
This gives me the impression Restoran D'Tandoor only choose prime cuts when purchasing red meat or their chef is extremely vigilant when cubing the meat for cooking.
Munching through that gorgeous fruit sitting atop that delectable leavened bread briefly ignited the selfish gene in my character, but after re-examining my conscience I relented and shared the last two pieces.

The Almond Milk shake was something I never tried before and it delivered a sweet and nutty taste within the confines of its thick texture, one was superb but two would be being greedy.
This established brand name on the Selangor restaurant scene is still delivering high quality Indian cuisine and judging by this dining experience they will be here for a long time to come.
