I know from experience that Selangor is blessed with some fantastic eateries that are the envy of many Malaysian states but as I do not reside here I followed the advice of my stepson who is working here and we opted to dine at the Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar in Puchong.
As the name suggests they specialise in grilled fish and I discovered they have 17 outlets around Malaysia with a good concentration of their restaurants in Selangor.
I was delayed before I left Penang so we arrived quite late at around 8.30pm but all six that were dining were all hungry and looking forward to the meal.
Ikan Pari, Stingray - RM28.00
Ikan Siakap, Seabass - RM57.70
Ikan Terubuk, Herring - RM23.00
Kerang, Shellfish - RM18.20
I was pleased that the Shellfish were still baking hot when delivered to our table and these were dispatched quite promptly as we all enjoyed munching these with the Assam and Soy sauces.
The Baked Squid was up next and I noticed that everything we had eaten so far was garnished with the same sauce.
The origins of this sauce were passed down through the generations and it is a traditional sauce that has served this restaurant chain very well as I am reliably informed they get a big crowd dining on most nights of the week in all their outlets.
Back to the Squid, it was cooked very well and everyone had a nibble at this dish with no complaints from any of my fellow diners.
The Stingray came on two separate plates so was very easy for everyone to share around, the flesh melted quite easily from the bones but I did notice something that I thought was quite odd, the fish gave me the impression it had been steamed and I was expecting it to be grilled on an open flame.
The taste was still good and I enjoyed eating it but I couldn't get my mind away from the thought that this would taste even better if it was thoroughly grilled with the added dimension that this method of cooking would bring to the gustatory sensation.
The Herring was served in the same fashion and was equally as tasty so I had to get in fast before my fellow diners wolfed it all down before I could get a taste.
I think this signature sauce for the Restoran Sekichan Ikan Bakar compliments fish dishes very well.
A good sign that you are eating good food is if the the conversation levels drop and this was noticeable with all my fellow diners enjoying their fish feast at the Sekinchan Ikan Bakar Restaurant.
The Chicken Soup came in a smallish bowl but it was well stocked with plenty of chicken meat in it and it had an authentic rustic taste of a good Chicken Broth that was quite tasty.
The Seabass was the last fish dish and I found it interesting how the the different fish served with the same sauce could vary in taste. I do like Seabass and this sauce also went very well with this dish.
Sekinchan Ikan Bakar
During my latest visit to sunny Selangor the inevitable question arose of where to eat and as I was only here for one night I wanted to go to somewhere that would really put a culinary smile on my face.
The semi alfresco ambience of the Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar in Puchong suited the fish feast we dined on and with their fresh fish being caught locally I can understand the popularity of this fine Selangor fish restaurant.
Sotong Besar, Baked Squid - RM18.30
2 Ice Lemon Tea - RM3.60
Watermelon Juice - RM4.50

Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar - Our Food Bill:
This was no bad thing because the sauce was quite scrumptious and upon enquiry I discovered that this is the signature sauce for Restoran Sekinchan Ikan Bakar.
It is a flavoursome mix of slightly spicy sweet and sour that has a smooth texture, it is very easy on the palate and it certainly went well with all the fish dishes we has eaten.
