Selangor Sport
Formula One Racing at Sepang Circuit

The Selangor sport scene has a truly international feel when the Formula One teams arrive in town ready for race action at the Sepang International Circuit in Selangor.
Since its inception in 1999 this international class racing track has been regularly hosting major world events and is regarded as one of the finest tracks in the world.
You do not have to have a formula one team budget to race here though as on weekends when there are no races the Sepang circuit is open to the public to come and become Michael Schumacher or Valentino Rossi for the day by racing their own cars and bikes on this adrenalin pumping track.

Royal Selangor Yacht Club
Another world famous institution is the Royal Selangor Yacht Club that is the largest Yacht club in Malaysia with over 1000 members and a fleet in excess of 200 boats.
It is home to the prestigious Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta that is a challenging offshore sailing race consisting of 3 overnight passage races plus a further 2 days harbour racing in Penang and Langkawi.
Since its inaugural year in 1979 this annual sporting event attracts a world class field to race in the open seas over the 240km course.
Selangor Extreme Sports
Staying on a nautical theme the Selangor River is home to some pretty impressive white water rapids that dependent on rainfall are classed as between grade 2 and 5 for White Water Rafting.
White Water Rafting is twice daily at 10am and 2pm with the technical and in some places steep waters take a challenging 2 hours to navigate.
The other popular Selangor extreme sports facility available here is Kayaking and depending on your experience there are qualified instructors available to teach you the art of kayaking on a flat water course for beginners or in class 3 rapids for experienced kayakers.
While it is not quite a nautical theme the opportunities for adventure at the Pisang Falls in Selangor are both exciting and wet and wild.
Once you arrive at the falls prepare for a steep hike to the activity centre where you can then 'fly' across the falls in a Flying Fox before Abseiling down the falls some 30 metres to the pool below.
Definitely one for the adrenaline junkies and the strong of limb.
Selangor Golf
When looking at the list of nearly 40 golf courses available for the Selangor sport enthusiasts it quickly becomes apparent that this state is a golfers dream come true.

Golf however is not really about quantity but quality and if Selangor golf courses were given star ratings then most of them would be 5 star.
Not content with having sculpted courses edging into rainforests and picturesque lakes they all seem to compete with each other on external to golf facilities like swimming pools, squash courts, tennis courts, gymnasiums and conference facilities.
If I were to talk about just one course it would have to be the magnificent Mines Resort and Golf Club that was home to the 1999 world cup golf championship.
As the name suggests, this course was indeed crafted into what was the former largest open cast tin mine in the world, but you would not think this looking at this magnificent course now.
This par 72 and 6191 metre course has kind wide fairways that can lull you into a false sense of security before attempting the approach shot onto the contoured greens where accuracy is required.
Selangor Floorball
An interesting Selangor sport competition and one I had not come across before is the Selangor Floorball League, it is a form of 5 a side indoor hockey played in a large gymnasium.
The eventual winners of the league then enter a super league against the top 2 teams in the Penang and Sabah leagues.
Floorball is believed to have originated in Scandinavia in the 1970's and has became a firm favourite of the floorball athletes of Selangor with the prospect of further expansion into other Malaysian states.
Shah Alam Circuit
It might not be formula one at the Sepang circuit but any budding Michael Schumacher has to start somewhere and Shah Alam is home to the Shah Alam Stadium Circuit where all the ambitious boys and girls who dream of Monaco, Silverstone and Sepang come to learn and hone their go karting skills.
