Tandoori And Naan Time
@ Restoran Rejab
When it comes to finding tasty tandoori, Restoran Rejab is not facing much competition in its Puchong Utama location as it is the sole outlet serving this coveted North Indian cuisine on the eastern side of the LDP.
Restoran Rejab is classed as a mamak style nasi kandar outlet that serves a variety of dishes and it is popular in the area for its naan breads, tandoori and lamb soup.
I had previously tried the tandoori here so, on a quiet sunday evening I returned with camera in hand to gorge myself on their tandoori chicken and unleavened bread fresh from the tandoor oven.
There was only two of us dining and although we both chose the tandoori chicken we selected different naan breads with my fellow diner choosing the cheese garlic naan whilst I opted for the banana naan.
Both breads were prepared in the same way with the only difference being the toppings chosen. The chef puts the naan on a large kitchen glove before firmly placing it on the inside wall of the tandoor oven.
This wonderful flat bread was baked in minutes and served piping hot to our table with an accompanying dhal and chicken sauce.
The tasty tandoori chicken served at Restoran Rejab scores better than some of the more popular restaurant brands when it comes to the size of the portion served.
For example at Restoran Pelita the chicken portion is very small however, still using Pelita as an example the taste test faired better at the more established brand than at Rejab.
The banana naan i absolutely adored, the bread was soft but with a subtle crispyness that boosted the texture and flavour and the melted banana created a taste sensation that perfectly complimented this wonderful north Indian bread.
The cheese garlic naan delivered the same soft crispy taste but with the melted banana being replaced by melted a cheese garlic combination it really hit the mark in the tasty bread stakes.
Restoran Rejab is developing a good reputation for its tasty tandoori and nectarous naans in its Puchong Utama location.
The tandoor style of cooking is to use a high temperature to seal the juices into the meat hence it is very important that a restaurant marinates the chicken for a minimum of overnight to achieve the maximum flavoursome taste as required by their style of the recipe.
The pieces of chicken were placed inside an enclosed but open grill clamp and dangled inside the tandoor oven until the that wonderful crimson brown colour is sizzling with a few crispy edges to add extra flavour.
The tandoori chicken served at Rejab Restaurant comes with the traditional lime (halved) ready to squeeze over this tasty dish as well as cut fresh onion, cucumber and mint sauce.

The chef was kind enough to allow me to take photos of him preparing the naan breads and he seemed to take pride in his work which was nice.

Restoran Rejab does serve tasty tandoori but the naan bread stole the show as the bread was soft but with a subtle crispyness that boosted the texture and flavour, while the melted banana created a taste sensation that perfectly complimented this wonderful north Indian bread
