Johors' capital city and administrative centre is Johor Bahru and is the second largest city by population in Malaysia.

Johor is bordered by Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca to the north and the Straits of Johor to the south which is the stretch of water separating peninsular Malaysia with Singapore.Johor WaterfallHistorically the strategic location of Johor has drawn interest from powerful trading nations such as the Dutch, the British and the Portuguese that resulted in both struggles and strategic alliances formed as the various regional clans vied for political and economic hold over the Straits.

It is notable that Johors rise to prominence was precipitated by the downfall of Malacca to the Portuguese.

Johor is connected to Singapore via two bridges the Johor-Singapore Causeway and the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link. The causeway is 1038m in length and was completed in 1923 whereas the second link is a more recent construction being completed in 1997 consisting of a dual decked three carraigeway road system.

Getting to Johor can be achieved through the international airport located just outside Johor Bahru or via the north-south highway from Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and the rest of peninsula Malaysia north of Johor.

There are three main ports feeding the state of Johor which are the Pasir Gudang Port, the Port of Tanjung Pelepas and the Tanjung Langsat Port.

The Johor tourism industry is flourishing in the state with many major tourist destinations including National Parks, Forest Reserves, Museums, Beautiful Beaches, Tropical Islands, Waterfalls, Fishing Villages and Riverside Villages that are waiting for the intrepid explorer to discover them.Johor has the privilege of being one of the most developed states in Malaysia and its economy looks set to grow with the Iskandar Malaysia project (the new southern development corridor) that encompasses Johor Bahru and has been identified as one of the catalyst developments to boost the entire nations economy.

When you consider that nearly 50% of foreign tourists travel through Johor Bahru to enter Malaysia from Singapore it is understandable the government viewing Johor as a significant area of future growth for the Malaysian economy.
